Cheong refutes Nobel rumor

South Korea’s Cheong Wa Dae refuted plans to win the Nobel Peace, allegedly concocted by Choi Kyu-sun, and published in Newsweek. He called extreme irresponsibility to publish a story based on rumor concerning lobbying by Choi. In support, Chief of Staff Park Ji-won said publishing such an unverified rumor would be an international shame. In addition, he reiterated comments by a Nobel Award Committee executive director during an interview with KBS that the Nobel Peace Prize cannot be purchased by money, influence, favor, or power. He further stated that it was ridiculous to find fault with the prize, which had already been given without any opposition within the Nobel Committee.
