Pakistan fires back-to-back missile tests
10/8/2002 1:00:00 PM

Pakistan -- In under a week, Pakistan has fired two series of missiles as “routine” military testing. Advanced notice was given to the neighboring countries, including India, for the launching of the Shaheen-1 series. The tests were completed, arguably successfully, on Tuesday, two days before the final day of polling in Kashmir.

In an attempt to lower tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, U.S. Assistant Secretary for South Asia, Christina Rocca, visited the two countries last week. The two have been urged to hold off on further missile tests to avoid any misinterpretation between them that could trigger a war.
