Thailand -- Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra proposed building a regional bond market at the World Economic Forum's annual East Asia summit on Sunday.

Thaksin suggested that an Asian bond market could be developed by establishing a fund that would mobilize one percent of Asia's foreign exchange reserves, which top $1 trillion.

The Prime Minister sees this as a way of avoiding being at the mercy of exploitative outsiders.
