Koizumi scheduled to meet North Korean leader

TOKYO – Japan’s Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi Koizumi is scheduled for 2 rounds of summit talks in Pyongyang, North Korea, beginning Tuesday with North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Il. Both parties plan to reopen negotiations for normalizing diplomatic ties, after having been on hold since 2000. North Korea has promised to touch upon 11 abducted as well as explain its freezing missile tests and economic reforms. In return, Japan is willing to cooperate economically and apologize for the past. If agreement is reached before Koizumi departs from Pyongyang, the two might hold a press conference.
