Home > South Asia > U.S. Suspends Peace Corps Operations in Bangladesh over Terror Scare ANI 3/16/2006 Dhaka: The U.S. Government on Wednesday suspended Peace Corps operations in Bangladesh for an indefinite period against the backdrop of repeated threats by the Islamist radicals to kill the peace volunteers. "The Peace Corps in Washington, D.C. has decided to suspend indefinitely its program in Bangladesh due to the possibility that terrorist elements might attempt to attack Peace Corps Volunteers in Bangladesh, perhaps in retaliation for the recent capture of five of the top seven leaders of Jamaatul Mujahideen," said a statement issued by the American center in Dhaka. |
