Pakistan gears up for SAF Games

Karachi: The torch lighting ceremony of the 9th SAF Games was held in Karachi on Sunday. The thrice-postponed South Asian Federation (SAF) Games will be held in Islamabad from March 29 to April 7. There will be no change in the number of disciplines.The 15 disciplines are athletics, boxing, badminton, football, karate, kabbadi, taekwondo, swimming, shooting, squash, table tennis, rowing, wrestling, volleyball and weightlifting. In a colourful ceremony, Olympian Islahudin and woman athlete Naveed Durrani lit the 9th SAF Games torch, which was handed over to athlete Mahboob Dawood by Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad Khan. Mahboob and 22 athletes took the torch to Cantt Station from where it would be taken to Quetta, the capital of Balochistan. After Quetta the torch will travel through Lahore, Peshawar and Rawalpindi finally reaching Islamabad.
