Country pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi on 56th death anniversary

New Delhi: The country paid homage to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 56th death anniversary here Friday. The day is observed as Martyrs' Day. President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam led the nation in paying homage to Gandhi, who fought against the British rule through a series of non-violent protests. Kalam along with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and others visited Rajghat, mausoleum of Mahatma Gandhi in New Delhi, on Friday morning, and offered floral tributes.
