PIL on winter deaths

New Delhi:Action Aid India, a voluntary organisation, on Monday filed a public interest petition (PIL) before the Supreme Court expressing concern over deaths of homeless people during winters. The group said that though the right to shelter is considered a fundamental right, the Central government and its agencies have not made this right accessible to a large number of people. Every year, more than 1000 people die in the severe cold wave that grips parts of sub-Himalyan northern plains, western and eastern parts of the country on New Year eve.
