Illuminating stones are auctioned for charity
GUANDONG - An elderly Chinese medicine doctor will auction off his collection of sixteen bright dark pearls and give the proceeds to charity.
Mr. Luo, from Guangdong province, has a unique collection of dark bright pearls that range in various sizes, shapes, textures and color that reflect dazzling light in the dark.
The biggest pearl in the collection is one is about the size of a basketball and is 52 kg in weight. The small ones are about the size of an egg, but are crystal clear and shine with dazzling lights in the dark. The radiant light that is reflected from the pearls is dazzling, and words in books can be clearly read under its light, as reported by Yangchen Evening Newspaper.
The bigger the pearl the darker in color it appears under sunlight. But the longer it takes for it to become completely shining, means the more luminous the pearl becomes in the dark. But as soon as another source of light comes into contact with the pearl, the luster of pearls immediately fades away, said Luo.
A few of the dark bright pearls have been owned by Mr. Luo since his childhood, although their function and value are drastically different from what they are now---at that time, they were only “marbles” given by his elders for him to play with!
Mr. Luo pointed out in his collection the least noticeable dark bright pearl. “This pearl is the least pretty under the sunlight with stains and spots on its surface. However, it is the most magnificent among the sixteen pearls in the dark: it not only shines with dazzling luster, but also displays beautiful, gleaming patterns such as flowers and birds on its surface.”
One pearl was found in his friend’s garden in Shanxi several years ago. “At the time the pearl was enclosed in a heavy layer of clay and was with a diameter of 20 cm. It was used to block the fence to prevent farm animals to get out. I was filled with indescribable joy upon finding it and begged my friend to give it to me. I have treated it as the most valuable treasure ever since," Mr. Luo said with a smiling face.
