On Monday, Japanís leading electronics companies, collectively known as the Big 9, will begin licensing rewritable Blu-Ray discs. Blue-Ray refers to a large capacity optical disc that utilizes blue-violet lasers. These discs are capable of recording high definition broadcasts as well as higher picture quality. The Big 9 includes Hitachi, Ltd., LG Electronics Inc., and Phillips Electronics.
